From the very beginning it was clear that these represented high artistic and scientific values. Today, in their original shape, they constitute the interior decoration of the most prestigious suites.

- The Royal Castle on Wawel Hill
The Wawel Castle (Zamek wawelski) served as a royal residence and the site where the country's rulers governed Poland for five centuries from 1038 until 1596.Worth visiting in the castle grounds are the Wawel Cathedral, the Royal Tombs - crypts containing royal sarcophagi, where we walk among Poland's entire history, and the massive "Sigismund" Bell, which tolls only to commemorate events of the greatest importance to the country and the city.
According the ranking carried out by Travel+Leisure, a high-circulation monthly, in August 2006, Krakow is among the five European cities perceived as the best, together with Florence, Rome, Venice and Istanbul. The most important of them include the State Collections of Art - Wawel Royal Castle, the National Museum with a large collection of Polish and world paintings and the Czartoryskis Museum in Krakow with the famous picture "Lady with a weasel" by Leonardo da Vinci.
